The company was founded in Jamaica, New York, by Vincent Anza in 1981, when he and his father, Joseph Anza Sr., incorporated National Security Gates, Inc, a manufacturer of roll up gates and finished iron works products. With several successful generations of iron workers preceding Vincent Anza, the skill and knowledge of the trade came naturally. In 1990, Vincent Anza purchased his first flatbed truck dedicated exclusively to the steel distribution, and giving birth to National Steel Supply, Inc. After several years of simultaneously managing the iron fabrication shop and the distribution company, Vincent Anza decided to discontinue the iron works business and focus exclusively on the flourishing distribution business.

The company quickly expanded its customer base to include structural steel fabricators, iron workers, furniture manufacturers, overhead roll up door manufacturers and other general steel end-users.

In 2000, National Steel Supply, Inc. moved into a new larger facility in Bronx, New York enabling the company to improve its product offering, expand its customer base and grow its fleet of trucks. Currently, National Steel Supply, Inc. is the largest Steel service center in the New York City metro area covering a geographical territory extending across the tri-state area. Joseph V. Anza, eldest son of Vincent Anza, joined the firm in May of 2003. Vincent J. Anza, also a son of Vincent Anza, joined the firm in June 2007. All generations continue to be committed to the growth and expansion of National Steel Supply, Inc for years to come. In March 2008, National Steel Supply, Inc opened its third distribution facility in Newark, NJ and quickly followed with the opening of its fourth facility in Brooklyn, NY in June 2008.
